WEGIRLS FOUNDATION
Registration/Legal Status
This foundation is registered under the Registrar General Department with the Registration number CG071700923.

Wegirls Foundation, a registered Ghana-based non-profit organization dedicated to adolescent girls, was established on May 12, 2023 by Madam Sandra Wiafe, a former midwife in the North Gonja District of Savannah Region of Ghana.
She observed that, a significant proportion of adolescents in the communities she worked in, particularly girls, abstain from attending school while menstruating. Unfortunately, many students still go to school even if they have to use rags to cover their periods, which might lead to infections in the long run. They also don't have enough money to buy sanitary napkins, which is a huge problem. As a result, they neglect their education and pursue risky behaviour that could lead to financial difficulties, such as having sexual relations before marriage, becoming pregnant at a young age, and eventually dropping out of school. Those who manage to complete junior high or senior high school end up migrating to the southern region of Ghana for further education or menial works.
In the light of this that, the foundation was establish to bridge the gap identified in these adolescent girls in these rural areas within the country by engaging them in series of activities and providing them with some basic menstrual sanitary pads and other related supplies to make them comfortable during that time of the month.
